Chicken and Eggs

I couldnt resist doing some type of Easter/Spring theme for class this week.  I chose this cute little chicken and cracked egg for our theme.  I encouraged the children to free hand the chicken and egg, but for my little fry guys, I made templates for them to trace.

I then had oval templates in all different sizes for them to trace and scatter them all over their paper.  We used special marker paper and colored them in.  They chose 3 different colors for the background and 3 other colors for the chicken.

Some kids found this process a little challenging.  Some students got carried away using every color possible for the background and then had no other colors left for the chicken, so they had to repeat them.

All in all, the results were amazing.

Watercolor/Oil Pastel Spring Flowers

Just finally got around to posting last weeks lesson.  Been a little pre-occupied getting the new studio up and running.  Furniture is moved in, now just minor tweaking and we are good to go.  It looks so nice and there is so much room in the studio for the kids to walk around, I can breathe!

I will post pictures of the studio once it is completely finished, still want to hang some curtains and the crown molding isnt quite up yet.  Needs to be picture perfect before I snap a shot.

So the lesson we did last week consisted of watercolors and oil pastels.  It was really nice and got me in the mood to welcome Spring!  The kids loved to splatter the paint onto the work at the end, I think it gave it that extra special touch.

Warm and Cool Color Lesson

We finished our lesson this 2 week lesson using warm and cool colors.  I chose butterflies to use as our focal image.  We started drawing lines with our sharpies using a wide ruler.  We then traced the butterfly template numerous times around our page to show movement.  Our final step before painting was to add the details to our butterfly.

The next step was the watercolors.  We alternated the colors, warm and cool, and painting our background in this pattern.  Our butterflies were then painted in the opposite colors to show a contrast.

Some students barely had enough time, even though it took 2 weeks to finish, so they left their butterflies black and white, which really looked neat.

I have a ton of students and will post more pics, but this is what I have so far!

New Session Begins

I have been a little slow updating this blog.  Partly because I have been pre-occupied with the addition to the studio and partly because the students were given a project that takes 2 weeks to complete.    The students are finishing up their work and I am seeing some awesome results. I will post pictures in a couple days!

If you are new to my blog, please feel free to join and become a member.  I spend alot of time posting information as well as uploading pictures and it is a great resource for those who want to stay in the "art" loop.

The cupcake classes are full, however if there are cancellations you can be put on our waiting list.

The studio should be completed within 2 weeks!  We will have more space, new furniture and a fresh new look!  Thanks for making us your childs first choice in Art Classes.
